Women's Caucus for the Arts and the I Love You Institute: “I am Grateful for You” Postcard Project
The “I am Grateful for You” postcard project is a year-long partnership between artist Anne Labovitz’s I Love You Institute and the Women’s Caucus for Art. The project is a durational, nomadic intervention, which prioritizes socially engaged practices. The purpose of the project is to focus on acts of kindness as a radical act. The project will be launched on Valentine’s Day and continue with a year-long outreach to the WCA community.
Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) and Anne Labovitz
Duluth Sister Cities and the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) commissioned a partnership project with Duluth-born, Twin Cities-based artist Anne Labovitz to install her 122 Conversations: Person to Person, Art Beyond Borders. The exhibit is part of the DECC’s initiative to create spaces that invite locals and visitors to learn about Duluth’s impact and culture. The partnership with Duluth Sister Cities is the first project of its kind. The installation includes work that was part of a 6-year-long international touring exhibition and publication. 122 Conversations is a body of artwork that reflects Labovitz’s visual interpretation of conversations with people from Duluth’s five sister cities around the world: Duluth, USA; Växjö, Sweden; Petrozavodsk, Russia; Ranya, Iraqi Kurdistan; Ohara Isumi-City, Japan; and Thunder Bay, Canada.
This unique installation captures the essence of cross-cultural dialogue and themes of friendship, empathy, understanding, and love. “I am incredibly excited to bring 122 Conversations back to Duluth” said Anne Labovitz. “This project was inspired by Sister Cities International’s mission to promote peace one individual at a time. 122 Conversations traveled to each of Duluth’s sister cities before spending the past five years at the airport in Minneapolis.” This installation sits next to a large wall map that identifies stops in downtown Duluth and along the Lake Walk that highlight the city’s commitment to peace and unity.
