Happy New Year! Here in Minnesota, we’re moving through a particularly heavy season and in moments like these, I’m reminded why art matters so deeply to me—not as an escape from reality, but as a way to illuminate the hope that still lives within us. How are you finding hope right now?

REMINDER: Exhibition at the State Capitol
Anne Labovitz, 122 Conversations: Person to Person, Art Beyond Borders – The Archive
On View through October 1, 2026
This archive exhibit is on display in the 3rd Floor Exhibit Gallery at the Minnesota State Capitol and is a curated collection of my decade-long international project designed to promote peace through art and dialogue. It traveled to the five-sister cities of Duluth, MN: Ranya (Kurdistan Region of Iraq), Växjö (Sweden), Petrozavodsk (Russia), Thunder Bay (Canada), and Ohara Isumi-City (Japan). The work has also been shown in Washington, D.C. and at Bethel College in Kansas, and was on display at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport for five years. The project serves as a catalyst for peace—one individual at a time.
In the Studio
LightWindows
I wanted to share a bit more about a recent material exploration LightWindows are mesmerizing, backlit sculptures. The works are metaphors; utilizing light as a medium. LightWindows transform when they are illuminated and the underpainting becomes observable (both sides are painted Tyvek). These pieces explore color, light, and surface in new ways, allowing the imagery to glow from within. Light transforms marks, mood, and space and I’m looking forward to sharing more of these pieces as they’re created.
In the studio I have three sizes: 12 x 12 inches, 24 x 24 inches, and 36 x 36 inches. Please reach out if you’d like to see any of these works in person!
