Blue Opal, 36 by 36, acrylic on canvas, 2011

A beloved blue spruce tree needed to be cut down so I used the branches to create Blue Spruce. Marks were made using tree parts such as leaves and sprigs as tools. Images emerge in these paintings, suspended throughout the layers of thinly tinted polymer emulsion. I used many layers of polymer to achieve the cumulative effect of the glossy surface. Aiming to capture the moving light through the leaves and the changing sky. This series was underway for 3 years.
